About This Workshop

Accessing help after the loss of a loved one can be extremely difficult. Many grievers, especially men, struggle to find the support they need. This workshop focuses on practical strategies that male grievers can use to access support and cope with loss.

The structure includes three segments:
– 15 minutes with a griever sharing his personal story after the death of his wife
– 15 minutes with a grief and loss educator discussing common challenges faced by men
– 15 minutes for questions and answers from participants

Meet the Panelists

Dr. Kenneth J. Doka is Professor Emeritus at the Graduate School of The College of New Rochelle and Senior Vice-President of the Hospice Foundation of America.
He has authored or edited over 40 books and written more than 100 articles and chapters.
His influential book, Men Don’t Cry, Women Do: Transcending Gender Stereotypes of Grief, helped identify the unique ways men and women experience grief.

Adam Larson is a father and technology professional. He serves on the Board of the National Widowers’ Organization.
After losing his wife, Adam had to navigate the challenges of single parenthood while managing his career. His experience has driven him to support other grieving men.

Ken Levy joined the NWO Board after the death of his wife of 18 years to a rare form of breast cancer.
He became a strong advocate for inflammatory breast cancer awareness, leading a statewide proclamation for IBC Awareness Day in New York.
Ken experienced complicated grief and struggled to find male-focused bereavement support.
Now, through his work with NWO, he helps others access the support he once needed.
Ken is also a freelance journalist and former host of The Environmental Minute, a daily radio segment on ecological issues.

Our webinar series offers honest and practical conversations that provide support, connection and insight for men coping with loss—helping them navigate grief and find a path forward.
